Asheville Community Theatre is proud to announce the Asheville Jams concert series, which will bring local musicians to the ACT stage. Since its inception, Asheville Community Theatre has always been a supporter of local talent. Stage productions at ACT have starred local actors for 62 years and the Lobby Gallery has displayed the work of local visual artists for 6 years. Now Asheville Community Theatre is excited to expand that support to showcase local musicians in a concert series. The series will run February through August 2008 with five concerts on the ACT Mainstage with ticket prices ranging from $10-$15. Asheville Jams is sponsored by Greenlife Grocery.

The Goodies will play Asheville Community Theatre on Saturday, May 24 as a part of the Asheville Jams concert series. The Goodies offer a spin-dizzy mix of rock, blues, funk and a very unusual assortment of covers for a guaranteed good time. Their live concerts, more like a theatre performance than a jam, have the urgency and profile of a big rock show with both original numbers and unique covers.

The Goodies often refer to their shows as a “rock cabaret.” Mountain Xpress described the band as “Queen-meets-The Squirrel Nut Zippers.” They dress and act the part of the house band of both an old Jean Renoir and a later David Lynch film. The Goodies are Holiday Childress (lead vocals and guitar), Patrick Kelly (bass and vocals), and Michael Allen (drums and percussion). “The hallowed walls of ACT will be rocked like never before when The Goodies take the stage,” says Phil Atwood, Managing Director of Asheville Community Theatre. “We've certainly had our share of wild costumes and strange dancing from performers before, but never while they're covering Van Halen.”

The Goodies will appear on Saturday, May 24 at 8:00 pm. Tickets may be purchased in advance online at www.ashevilletheatre.org, over the phone by calling 828-254-1320 or in person at the Asheville Community Theatre Box Office at 35 E. Walnut in Asheville. All tickets for The Goodies are $15.
