Journey to Treasure Island, written and directed by award-winning storyteller
David Novak and based on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic pirate adventure,
Treasure Island sails into 35below for 3 performances in August.
This interactive theatre piece stars Alex Bradley, Shirley Cohen, Chris
Martin, Colin Stone, Laura Waters, and Jason Williams as well as children
and adults from the audience. A Journey to Treasure Island will
be performed in 35below, the black box theatre underneath Asheville Community
Theatre, on Saturday, August 18 at 11:00 am and 2:30 pm and on Sunday, August
19 at 2:30 pm. Tickets are $5 and are available in the Asheville Community
Theatre Box Office by calling 828-254-1320.
A Journey to Treasure Island is produced through Asheville Community Theatre's Tanglewood Branches program, an offshoot of Tanglewood Youth Theatre's education program. The Tanglewood Branches program presents interactive theatre pieces including basic theatre instruction by professional and volunteer actors to children and families at throughout Buncombe County. Tanglewood Youth Theatre has long been a successful and vibrant part of the creative education for youth in Western North Carolina. The Tanglewood Branches program expands the educational programming of Asheville Community Theatre further into the community in order to reach more families and students. Audiences will be introduced to the magic and joy of live theatre by both watching and participating in the play.
“The Tanglewood Branches program is the perfect introduction to theatre,” explains Jenny Bunn, Program Director at Asheville Community Theatre. “Dads and daughters, brothers and sisters, moms and sons will be able to join in on the fun of performing. “
